Cooking Shouldn’t Kill Campaign
Wondering what to cook tonight, or whether to just get a take-away? As the fortunate few debate the next convenience option to making dinner (or skipping it altogether) consider the millions of women in the developing world who have to cook on stoves either fuelled by wood or paraffin. Accidents with these stoves can often lead to fires which can be devastating. Day to day they are highly polluting solutions. It is a strange but true fact that indoor pollution from highly toxic fossil fuels is a massive health risk to women and their children in communities with no electricity. The informal settlements in this country are a case in point which is why a cleaner cooking option is a simple way of improving health and reducing fires that result from overturned stoves.

Julia Roberts has been chosen as the global ambassador of the Cooking Shouldn’t Kill campaign. She is one of a host of beautiful celebrities who have chosen to use their fame to highlight an issue that can help make such a difference to women and children worldwide.
The stove that is making all the difference is called a Clean Cook Stove and here in South Africa Siyanceda Africa relief has made a number of them available to rural households who need them the most.
