Which era was the best?
After watching Woody Allen’s fantastic new film, Midnight in Paris, it got me thinking about different eras. I always thought that I should’ve been born in the 1950s, since I adore vintage clothes, accessories and the old school glamour that people seemed to exude during this time. In our January issue we look at a new trend that is sweeping across Australia, the US and the UK, where Jane Austen fanatics spend weekends brushing up on 10th century manners. So, which era was the best?
1800s
Was it the 1800s where romance, manners and femininity claimed top priority? Did Jane Austen love the time she lived in or did she wish she could live in another time period?
1920s
Did Zelda Fitzgerald enjoy the era where the flapper reigned?
1950s
Then the 1950s, oh the 1950s. Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe…need I say more?
I guess people often believe that they were born in the wrong time. As in fashion and many other avenues of life, we look to the past to find inspiration. So, it’s probably best to look to the past, but to make the best of the present.

Although you have not included the era in the post- I have always thought that i should have been in my 20 somethings in the ’60s….Long maxi dresses,no shoes and flower power are seriously my thing…Altho I guess the ’60s fashion trends are still really in now-the whole mentality of the age was way less narcissistic and self obsessed than today and freedom of thought had just begun to surface… That and Bob Dylan tunes have really made me believe that I am growing up in the wrong era!
