Challenge Of The CrossFit Cave woman Finals

So the finals of the Cape CrossFit nutrition challenge have come and gone. If I had told anyone a few months back (anyone that really knows me), that I was capable of resisting wine, milk, sugar…WINE, for 8 weeks, they would never have believed me. Actually, there were a few unconvinced grins at the mention of this challenge initially, but I did it. I did it, and ahem…I was the only girl on the podium when the results came out. I was beaten by two machine men who did brilliantly. Everybody did, and the healthy competition, and little challenges were great fun. My coaches Jobst and Roland are brilliant, but my little Fitness Editor competitor, Amy Froneman had me pushing myself every morning to match her times and is partly responsible for many an aching bottom and leg of this cavewoman! The challenge may be over, but I’m not done. I’m going to continue with my Paleo ‘diet’ because I love it…only with the occasional coke zero and glass of wine on the weekends. I want a FEMININE 6 pack now. I want to get to 10% body fat. Leaner and meaner, happy and healthy!

On Friday I deadlifted 96ks…my personal best so far. Lol…one thing I’ll never need is a man to help me carry my groceries, or move my furniture. Maybe a back rub though…Thank you, Cape CrossFit for a brilliant challenge. Amy, I challenge you to a “see how much either of us can talk and giggle over a bottle of red”.

Cavewoman

Results: Nutrition challenge:

First place: Frank Pope, Second place: Mark Boonzaier, Third place: Grant Elario & Jo Youens

Jo went from 21% to 15% body fat, which is an improvement of 28.6% (4th in the challenge). You went from 7min 6sec on Diane to 3min 9 sec, which is an improvement of 125% (4th in challenge). You also lost 6kg and got ranked 3rd total in the Nutrition challenge. If you had signed up for the Diane challenge, you would have finished 2nd in the Women’s category.

Comments From The Coach, Jobst Obschewski:

“Over the last 8 weeks, Jo has sincerely impressed me. She made a conscious decision to step up the workouts and more importantly to make lasting, positive changes in her life. The way she turned her life around is impressive and inspiring for anyone privileged enough to witness it. She seems to realize that she is the master of her own fate, and as if wanting to prove me right, puts forward some new great goals  worth aspiring to. I am impressed, Jo Youens. Keep it up & Well done!”

Only for the brave:

On March 5th & 6th, 2011, the Fittest in Cape Town (FiCT) competition will take place in Cape Town at Cape CrossFit. FiCT is the ultimate test of fitness. Similar to the CrossFit Games, which annually determine the fittest athletes on earth, FiCT is a grueling 2-day event in which Cape Town’s fittest athletes compete in a variety of workouts in order to determine who are the fittest woman and  man in the mother city. Check it out!
