Lingerie for young girls: Is this taking it a bit too far?

I was really shocked yesterday when I read about this. Why, oh why is a clothing line like this even available? In the above lingerie for young girls campaign pics, you see girls recline in their bras and panties, styled to look very Brigitte Bardot-esque. Is  there something very wrong with this notion that girls should even be interested in wearing lingerie (and everything that’s associated with wearing skimpy underwear), or do you think this is completely suitable for children? These images are much like many a lingerie ad designed to entice, but these are images of girls between the ages of 4 and 12 years old. For goodness sake, they don’t even need to wear a bra yet! The French company  Jours Après Lunes and the designer of this controversial range, Sophie Morin, is now hitting back at critics. Morin says she is ‘extremely surprised by the current uproar.’ ‘All the photos show children playing children’s games, as we’ve all done. If you look at the details, you’ll often find elements of children’s games: dolls accessories, wooden animals etc.’ Should we be promoting the sexiness that comes with wearing lingerie in young girls? Because ultimately, sexualizing young girls in this way is similar to the way in which girls are groomed and styled to perform in beauty pageants. Both enforce the idea that bodily beauty is important above all, and that showing more flesh than not, leads to more rewards than punishments, in life in general…
