Watch this space: Jeremy Loops

Six years ago, I lazed in a cocktail lounge in Camps Bay and was slowly sucked in by the music being played by two curious instrumentalists in the corner. Music that was part Jazz, part African, part electro, part out of this world. Music that sends a rush of energy through your skin, and leaves your soul dancing for hours after the beat has ended. Music that, for this talented duo, rang of future success and soon put their band GoldFish firmly on the charts.

Now, just last week, for the first time since then, I experienced the same infectious sensation when watching the new kid on the block: Jeremy Loops. This musical genius is building quite the fan base around Cape Town, having recently performed at Rocking the Daisies. And if you haven’t heard him yet, you’re falling behind fast. Using a ‘looping’ technique – which entails progressively layering different rhythms and beats on top of each other – and various instruments, including a harmonica (thank you Jeremy for bringing back the Blues!), he produce a combination of sound that an entire band would be hard pressed to repeat. Laid-back, vibey and upbeat, his tunes are distinctly local but are sure to take the world by storm. So, if the name rang no bells for you, get on board and watch the video below for a small taste of what one man can do with a little loop pedal and a whole lot of talent…
